The USA Pizzaiolo Championship is the first US competition of the Caputo Cup Pizza Competition in Naples, Italy. The largest, most renowned pizza contest in the world.
Pizza-makers presented their creations to an esteemed panel of judges composed of industry professionals who will scored entries based on taste, visual presentation and originality at Neapolitan Express in Harlem, New York on January 19 & 20, 2015
We were proud to be invited to participate in the 1st USA Caputo Cup Pizza Challenge in the Margherita, Margherita Piu or Marinara competition. 43 of the US most esteemed pizzaiolo competed to win $1,000, a palet of Caputo Flour and a trip to the Pizza Summit in Vegas. Plus, trophies for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners.
It was an intimidating room filled with uniforms supplied by Orlando foods and Caputo flour with traditional napoli red scarves and Caputo emblazoned shirts for each contender. Jason Brunetti was nervous but confident, for his first pizza competition. He was about tenth at the tables which were standing in front of the judges. Pizzaiolo ceremoniously crafted their pizza as soon as the previous contender took their pie out of the screaming hot wood fired oven.
Every contestant brought their version of traditional Neapolitan ingredients: house made dough, tomato sauce, mozzarella and fresh Basil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Optional ingredients included cherry tomatoes, garlic and parmesan.
Winning fifth place in such an esteemed competition is fantastic… but Jason say’s watch out for next year. Now that he’s had the chance to experience the competition he expects to win in the next won!
